Who doesn’t love candles? They’re wonderful add-ons to any event and provide a stunning light in romantic settings. Perhaps the most favored candles are those that are scented. You’ll often catch spas using aromatherapy candles for their effectiveness in soothing and relaxing people.
What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy, simply put, is the practice of utilizing the oils and scents of plants to promote healthy living, relaxation, or the alleviation of ailments. It has been used for centuries as a practice known to effectively treat certain illnesses and have a positive impact on general well-being. When used in conjunction with the wax in candles, aromatherapy is an excellent remedy for a myriad of problems.
“Normal” Candles
All-natural, legitimate aromatherapy candles are difficult to find and can be quite expensive. Currently, most candles utilize a substance called paraffin wax, which is produced from petroleum. When paraffin wax candles burn they release hydrocarbon origins which are detrimental to one’s health. Another downfall of these candles is that they are usually produced with synthetic oils not essential oils. Typically, synthetic aromas are chemically based and so have no use in aromatherapy. Research has determined that synthetic chemicals don’t produce nearly as much of the benefit that essential oils do.
Real Aromatherapy Candles
Legitimate aromatherapy candles are produced from actual wax, like beeswax or soy. These types of substances are harder to procure and produce, meaning that they are more pricey than the typical, run-of-the-mill products. A lot of these candles are hand-made as well, resulting in even heftier fees for the careful time and effort that went into producing it.
Real aromatherapy candles are produced from organic substances and scents. One of the reasons that synthetic fragrances are so popular is that they are highly concentrated, meaning more candles can be produced at cheaper prices. Essential oils on the other hand are not concentrated and must be manufactured at more expensive rates. These factors culminate into a higher quality candle that has both visual and health beneficial properties.
If you are looking for an actual aromatherapy experience make sure that you do your homework on the candles that will be used. Only purchase candles from companies that are transparent with their ingredient list so that you can pick out the organic stuff from the synthetic stuff. There’s nothing that can match buying a quality aromatherapy candle and enjoying its soothing benefits.
